I posted a subject yesterday about my chick i had to hatch myself. Well yesterday he seemed great, he was running around, even knocking over others. Well, this morning, I woke up and he was just laying there, breathing. He won't open his eyes or anything. What happened to him? Is it possible he got chilled or maybe got an infection? He moves every now and then but just mainly lays there and breaths. Is there any hope for my little chick or any way i can save him? I would just hate to see him die.
Right now I have him in a towel in my hands, keeeping him at least warm and comfortable.

Where did you hatch him, in an incubator? They need to be at a temp of around 95-99degrees after they hatch and a bator is usually on the 98-99 degree side of that. Did you try to offer him a little drop of water being carefull not to aspirate him? Good luck and keep us posted.

Yes, he was hatched in an incubator. He was the last born so I the temp was right. He fluffed up late last night so I put him in with the others, in the brooder box.

I would leave him in the brooder with the others. He may just be more tired since he was last to hatch and had some struggles. If anything perks him up, it will be the other chicks. Good luck. I hope he's alright.

I called a local "farm" vet and it doesn't look good. He may not make it.

I have had a few do that and they bounce right back after a day or so. Don't lose hope yet for the little guy!

Thanks, I really hope he makes it. I put him back in the bator to see if it helps. Keep your fingers crossed!!

I am sad to say that the chick passed away in my hand. He was foaming at the mouth just before he died so I don't know what that means.

Thanks everyone
