Is there any place to get started turkey poults?

Or does everyone sell them as day-olds? I have 1 naragansett youngster, and would really like to have a 'flock'. I don't want to get eggs, since this one came from 9 eggs that I received. Turkey eggs seem hard to hatch, and I'd rather not mess with it.

Anyway, does anyone know of a place that would sell started poults? Like a few weeks old or so? Or am I stuck with day-olds or eggs?

The reason hatcheries ship poults and chicks as soon as they are hatched is because of the 3 day window in which poults can be shipped without food and water. The chick/poult can survive on the yolk they absorbed into their bodies just prior to the hatch for about 72 hours before they need food and water. I've had poor results in 4 attempts at hatching shipped turkey eggs.

Poultry sales or local breeders are the best options for poults that are a month or 2 old. Also there is a BYC memebr who goes by Spydertoys who should not be too far from you. I met her in Paducah earlier in the spring and sold her a young breeder pair of Black Spanish. I also got 6 Royal Palm eggs from her and got 100% hatch from them. I got some real nice poults from her eggs.

I will be selling off a few excess birds from this years hatch soon. If interested pm. I would be willing to meet you in the Paducah area.

Thanks, yeah I know spydertoys. I would really like to find some more narragansetts, so I don't have a bunch of mixed breeds. I'll keep her in mind though.

I got some Black spanish poults last week from a seller on Craigslist at 8 weeks old. I wanted to avoid the fragile period turkeys seem to have, and get some that were already started. just have to keep looking you`ll find some that are close to you.
