is there any reason my pullet would've died?

Do you have any chicken feed? in each pic there just a bowl of apples. How old grandpa and has he actually been feeding um not apples ?

Did grandpa start the hunger games and you just realized there starving with no water and food and they were starting to kill each other.

Do you own soap or running water. In 3 minutes you can scrub the turds n blood off the feeder that there all sick from blood n turds in there water.

If none of the above you can just open up the coupe and they can find there own food. Im sure they rather eat some bugs and chance being ripped apart by a predator and die a glorious death then play a Auschwitz Reenactment.

Be the hero of the story.

Yes, we do own chicken feed and when they were inside my garage all they ate was chicken feed. When I moved them to a coop they also got chicken feed. I only got the bowl of apples to encourage them to eat something. My grandpa is also 68, but he does most of the chores everyday, all the handwork around the farm, and he's basically the backbone of the family. Unfortunately in May he had a heart attack so he's been a little off since, but he still wants to be on his feet and helping when its needed.

They also got their water and food filled everyday, and they had plenty of it (there were two waterdishes, just the one with the blood happened to be empty at the time). They weren't necessarily killing each other, but the younger ones were too afraid to eat with the older ones around. It may have been accidently caused by my grandma and my absence, but I was very busy that week when this happened.

We do have soap and water, I clean their feeders everyday but my grandpa doesn't. But he never has with any of his chickens (he's been raising them 30+ years).

The chickens seem to be doing fine since I separated them from the older ones.

It can be difficult with your grandparents also taking care of the chickens. Hopefully they will get along well. I usually have raised my younger birds with older, but they have been separated with fencing or in a pen where both groups can see each other. Once the younger ones are the same size, they usually can be together and establish a new pecking order. When combining the 2 groups later, do it gradually through some fencing. Good luck.

Thank you! In the past we've bought 10-12 full grown hens from people and just put them in the coop with the other ones, they were separating themselves for a bit but eventually they just went along with the other ones.

A little update: I went to check on them and they all were eating and drinking!

That's awfully harsh and you are making a lot of criticisms and assumptions from just a few photos. Please try to be nicer and more considerate to others in future posts.

Is that water murky looking because of the Corid? Or is that an optical reflection of the siding next to the water?

I would recommend a chicken waterer over that open dish. Sometimes I have an open dish for my free rangers but I dump it out and refresh the water frequently. If you are dosing them with Corid than that is not something you want to do

With an open container like that I find it is very hard to keep the water clean. Plus, when it is directly on the ground there is a better chance of getting debris and their own poop in it. If you can't get a chicken waterer, try elevating the water dish to where they can just get their beak into it and drink.
