Is there any warm foods I could feed?

I bought a huge bag of grits just for feeding them a warm breakfast

I usually mash up a banana or some other fruit to add in. SOmetimes toss in a handfull of raisins or leftover yogurt from the baby's breakfast.

Man! These are some great ideas. I did scrambled eggs with parsley & oatmeal the other day during our mini blizzard & they gobbled it down really fast!

So as far as cooking the scratch, is that just cracked corn with water & cook it til it is soft? That could be done in a slow cooker too. I don't have a rice cooker.

Geeze guys....do we have spoiled chickens or what????

All I had to give them was my daughters strawberry and cream oatmeal and they LOVED IT!!! I'm so glad I'm not the only one who spoils her girls.

Before bed I give the girls pasta, any kind, still hot and cut into pieces for them. They LOVE it.....and it warms them up for the cold night ahead. It would work just as well in the A.M.

I usually cook a whole box and keep it in the refrigerator. Then I just take out what I need, add a little water, and microwave it. Out to the coop and into their begging little bellies!

ours are getting oatmeal right now, too - i've read somewhere around here that it helps with their protein uptake too....

i can't remember what thread anymore.... i mix their morning yogurt in with it to cool it off right before i take it out. they love it! i also bring them a bowl of their layena crumble mixed with warm water - they pick at that all day, so it's not necessarily warm when they eat it, but they seem to prefer it to the dry crumble, so hey! whatever works!

when they're extra spoiled, they get our bfast leftovers - potatoes and eggs.

No, I don't feel like it has to really be soft. Part of my idea was to get those legumes cooked so the chickens could make good use of them. I figured about 20 minutes should do it.

. The rice cooker works on some kind of switch that turns off when it gets too hot, apparently. Put in lots of water - it stays cooler - and it cooks and cooks and cooks.

So, I use like 1 cup of feed to 2 cups of water (maybe not even that much). It turns itself to "keep warm" in about 20 minutes. I couldn't eat it without a lot of chewing but then . . . I'm not eating it

Spoiling? I don't know. If it's good food - a little extra attention makes for happy hens. Happy hens mean more eggs. Don't you think
