Is there any way to tell if my birds are purebred?

I didn't notice how light they looked in these pics. They're actually pretty dark black, the roos, anyway, with a bit of a green sheen to their feathers. All my roos have feathered feet, the two pullets don't. The breeder had French and American BCM. Non of them have beards or muffs, nor do they have pea combs. I'm pretty much positive they aren't OE, but sure would like to know if they're worth the $6-$8 I paid for each one...

well the most expensive Ive seen them go for is $260 per dozen eggs! (dont know who would do that) I paid $20 for my 7 week old Pure very good breeder quality pullets. If they dont have feathered feet then they're not pure. When they start laying it will help. They're probaly not crossed with ameraucanas or at least not "1st generation." The roo does look pure though. Some of the birds in the pictures are deffinitly not pure. I have heard something of "blue copper marans" although they are supposed to be super rare

Here on BYC there is thread for just about every breed. Take good photos of the birds you wish to "show" to the fanciers that gather in those specific threads. We've some extremely knowledgable folks, for each breed, here on BYC.

We also have some poultry judges that hang out here and there. Most of them, NYReds and Fowlman01 show up on the Heritage Large Fowl thread. Those guys judge fairly but very honestly. Don't take any offense if you ask them to critique your birds.

Did you get your $6-$8 worth? I'd say yes. That's a very low price. Quite honestly, one isn't going to get really sharp, purebred birds at that price. Really classy, purebred birds often go for as much $50 a piece and if they are from show winning lines? Upwards of $100 a piece and more.

If your birds are happy, healthy and lay lots of eggs, you should enjoy them enormously.
