Is There Anybody Else Here With Aspberger's Syndrome?

Still, they should be the ones educating your boss about Aspberger's. They should know that they're opening the company up to a lawsuit if they don't make reasonable accomodation for you. JMO - I'm certainly no expert in employment law.

There are days I think they would have better luck nailing Jello to the wall than getting my boss to understand something he thinks he already understands.

But we are having an internal vacation day next week. Some of the management team from the other state is due to come up for the day. Most likely one of the HR people will be here. So I might see if I can get a few minutes to start a conversation about the issue. It is supposed to be a 'fun' day though. Not that anyone who experienced the 'fun' day last year thinks so. It is more like an internal 'that place that is really hot and you don't want to go to' day. And that comes from non-Aspies. For me it is beyond torture.

Why don't employers realize that all people want is appreciation, respect and cash bonuses??? These "Are you a wolf or a Dolphin?" workshops just make people annoyed.

I'd have something printed to hand the HR employee since they won't really have time to digest all that you're telling them. If you come across as "I'd like to educate you" instead of "I have a problem" it hopefully won't bite you in the rear. Sorry, I'm not very hopeful when it comes to enlightening management. My experience has never been positive in this regard.

Actually I'm not too big on vacation days.

I rolled over 20 days of vacation this year. Last year I had 3 personal days, 20 vacation days and 16 vacation days rolled over from the year before. I had to use or lose the personal holidays and the roll over days. To me it didn't matter. To my boss it did. I hate taking days off unless I have something to do. I can't afford a real vacation and the idea of just sitting at home for a week while my crew is struggling to get the work done just doesn't make sense to me. A vacation is when you actually go somewhere (like Disney World).

As for the touchy-feely stuff I hope not. We had the same thing last year at the same place. It was day of listening to boring speeches about the company and the products we make. Another one was a guest speaker who used to be the Philly Fanatic. His stories were good but the whole idea of 'fun' was a bit much. Sorry but what is fun to 99% of the population is not always fun for me. And I really don't do well when forced to participate. We also had to watch several skits performed by co-workers about things the company does. And some really bland and basically bad food.

This year it should be more of the same. They did issue pens with a fish on the cap that we have to bring. The pens are color coded for each department. That has me concerned. This thing is supposed to be about teamwork. My fear is that we will have to sit with people who have a different pen color. And my boss won't tell me what the pens are for. I know he knows since he was at the same event that was just held at the other location. All he does is smirk and refuses to answer. Grrrrr.

Because they read all those books that tell them spending money on asinine seminars is the way to go. And most employees are too afraid to say they don't like the workshops. They are just sheep who want a paycheck every week.

We used to get a $25 gift card for our birthdays. Now we have monthly or bi-monthly 'fun' activities to encourage teamwork. Really how does sitting in the breakroom eating an Egg McMuffin (that was one of the activities) promote teamwork? I would much rather have the gift card so I can go out and get a birthday present for myself. And most of my co-workers feel the same way but most won't speak up. The person who organizes the events has tried to get the out of state people to understand we want gift cards but they adamantly refuse to budge.

And I do have a brief explanation of what Aspergers is and how it can affect those who have it. I just have to print out a copy tomorrow. I did find out today the one of the HR people is due to come up to our site on Monday so I am going to try and see if I can talk to her then.

At our house we never go anywhere for vacation. DH travels for work, so his idea of a great time is to stay home for the week. It doesn't seem to matter that I don't go anywhere. In the past I would sometimes fly out and stay with DH while he worked. I only went if it was a great location. I got to go to Hawaii about 4 times this way. I just don't think that he will being going to any great places anymore. This week DH was in Fargo ND for a training school. At least the school was held at the hotel where he was staying. I think he told me that it was -15 yesterday. And it doesn't help that it hurts to much to walk very far, and it is hard to find someone to stay with all the dogs and chickens, so traveling and vacations no longer sounds like very much fun.

Back when I was still working I could never understand how the company thought that food was somehow incentive to work harder, or could be thought of as a reward. I can feed myself, and most of us didn't need the calories from the type of food that we would be given. I would much rather have cash, or a raise.

Well one of the out of state HR people will be aty work tomorrow. I've put in a request to talk to her. Still trying to figure out what to say without sounding like a complete idiot. She also happens to be the vice president of HR so I guess I can't get any higher than that.
