Because they read all those books that tell them spending money on asinine seminars is the way to go. And most employees are too afraid to say they don't like the workshops. They are just sheep who want a paycheck every week.
We used to get a $25 gift card for our birthdays. Now we have monthly or bi-monthly 'fun' activities to encourage teamwork. Really how does sitting in the breakroom eating an Egg McMuffin (that was one of the activities) promote teamwork? I would much rather have the gift card so I can go out and get a birthday present for myself. And most of my co-workers feel the same way but most won't speak up. The person who organizes the events has tried to get the out of state people to understand we want gift cards but they adamantly refuse to budge.
And I do have a brief explanation of what Aspergers is and how it can affect those who have it. I just have to print out a copy tomorrow. I did find out today the one of the HR people is due to come up to our site on Monday so I am going to try and see if I can talk to her then.
Back when I was still working I could never understand how the company thought that food was somehow incentive to work harder, or could be thought of as a reward. I can feed myself, and most of us didn't need the calories from the type of food that we would be given. I would much rather have cash, or a raise.
