is there anything I can do about maggots?

texascorgi, Just wanted to let you know what I did last night. This morning there isn't a maggot one on my Buffy.
Maybe this will help your situation too.
#1 rinsed the wound in saline solution, I really rinsed it good, squirting it under the good skin to flush out the maggots.
#2 Sprayed the wound with Blukote very liberally
#3 I waited about an hour then went back out and manually picked the maggots off. I even pressed on the edge of the wound where the good skin started and the little suckers just flowed out.
#4 Slathered triple anitbiotic ointment all over the wound, waited for a couple minutes and picked out the suffocating maggots

And this morning I don't see a one. It must have done the trick. I will still keep a close watch on her though. They could return. But I remain hopeful. Good luck to you and yours!

Thank you for the information. I picked out a few more this morning and stoped by the feed store after work and picked up some Granulex V spray. I talked to the guy at the feed store and he said that this would help the infection and keep flies off the wound. I let her go outside after I doctored her. There were still a few very small maggots but I could not get them with the tweezers so I went ahead and treated her and will check her in the morning.

She is at least eating and drinking since I let her out with the rest of the flock and they are not picking on her. Hopefully she will make it. She is still a little prolapsed from the butt.
