a chicken addict with no chickens?

I did my homework. I found a "local breeder" to buy my chickens from. I even sent a deposit so she knew I was serious about the chickens we discussed.

But

she had a lousy hatching year and my chickens aren't even hatched yet !!!

So, here I sit, a chicken addict with a brand new coop, a run under construction and NO CHICKENS to go pick up and bring home with me.

I am sooooo sad. It isn't the breeder's fault. Her roo's dingdong wasn't long enough to do the job. No way to anticipate a too short ding dong, is there?

I contacted someone about some chickens they are trying to rehome to see if I can afford them. I mean they are really really cute and JUST Started laying these iddy bitty little eggs.
Time will tell on those chickens.

But in the mean time what do I do?

Anyone got any chickens they don't want?

My local feed store sells pre-sexed pullets. Have you looked around to see if your feed store sells chicks? When all else fails. Tractor Supply has chicks! You have to buy a min. of 6. I do have a couple chicks I could rehome... but you are in Albany, NY and I am in CA. Did you look on craigslist? Sometimes there are people who have chicks there. Good Luck. Oh... when all else fails, buy and incubator and hatch your own. mypetchicken has plenty of eggs!

Addict? Chicken addict you say? Yes, yes I admit it . I too am an addict . Do they have 12 step programs for thing like this? Well while we are waiting for that I would def hightail it to the TSC nearest to you and check out the supply of chicks. I went for a new waterer and came out with 10 new babies to love while I wait for my order from the feed store of 8 pullets ,4 turkey and 12 meaties. Thinking about it it's not really an addiction , more like a hobby really and don't forget ...I can quit anytime I want .lol

There is a 12 Step program for us. They give away hatching eggs at the end of the meeting. Part of the program is gradually weaning. First they give you 12 eggs. Next meeting (in 21 days) they give you 11 eggs. Next meeting (in 21 more days) they give you 10 eggs. I hear it really works. At the end of the 12 steps you have so many chickens you don't want to see another one for at LEAST 21 days.

Around here they are scarce. Our local feed store won't have them until Monday. The owner sez he can't keep them.

I don't want chicks. I have a CAT who plays a little rough with her toys and chicks would look like TOYS to her.

I want CHICKENS. Hens. A Roo. And colored eggs. None of this tan or white stuff. I have neighbor girls and Sr Citizens to amuse with my chicken's eggs.

Now I just contacted someone with some Banties....4 of them. I get them in 2 weeks when the coop is 100% done. But Banties don't count. I know, I have been reading the "chicken math" thread.

So I still needs some chickens.

Did you see those cutie pie chicks? My cat would LOVE them to PIECES. LOL

I don't know where Granville is, so I didn't call on that one. The W. Coxsackie one is close to me. I just wish it wasn't "straight run". I really want hens (pullets). I am a brand new chicken addict and have yet to decide if I could kill and eat one of my chickens if I had to many roos.

Annie offered to hatch me some EEer's. As much as I really really didn't want to raise chicks, I ordered 6 from her. By the time they hatch it'll be MUCH warmer so I may only have to have them in the house for 4 weeks.

And I bought 4 banties from featherz. (but they don't count as a whole chicken...so I only have 2 chickens so far. And 6 chicks, which also don't count, so I still only have 2 chickens)

I have to be careful. My coop is only 8x8. That's 15 chickens MAX. I have 2, so 13 more to go. And the original breeder is still going to have 6 for me...just way way way later than I wanted. So I only need 7 more and my coop is full.
