Is there anything sadder than...

I would suggest a few store visit too. Even TSC has a large variety this year.

Just as sad is a person loving chickens, but who really should not be getting anymore....and yet considering more chicks. I am trying to be the one in control and not come home with chicks.

Yup, that's just as sad.

I went to TSC and they only had a FEW chicks. I left with just grit, oyster shell and a couple of bags of potting soil.

Red&Yellow :

You do know that roosters don't have 'dingdongs'? They excret semen directly into the hen's cloaca.

OMG...noooo, I didn't know that. I thought they had dingdongs like rabbits (you can't even SEE a rabbit's unless you know where to push and where to look after you push)

So the roo was doing his job he just didn't have good aim?

BYC people are wonderful.

I bought 4 little bitty girls from featherz. I have to pick them up as soon as the coop is done.

I ordered 6 chicks from Happyhensny. She is VERY local to me and a wonderful person. I didn't want to do chicks in the winter, but in the spring/summer I have a place to brood them.

And the original breeder is going to hatch me some of the ones I originally ordered. Again, it is NOT the breeder's fault. Chit happens. Her rooster had bad aim or something. LOL They will be chicks also, not the started pullets I wanted...but hey, they will be the breeds I wanted, so I'm not going to complain (much)

So I am up to 16 birds, albeit TINY ones to start. That's about all my coop can handle. And when I start to get a dozen eggs A DAY, I'll wonder why the heck I was so bummed out, won't I?

Yeah, someone told me about the dingdonglessness of roosters. That explains a LOT. Wouldn't most act like a dingdong if theirs was missing?
