Is there ever a problem with a rooster mating with his offspring?

I'm working on having my brooders hatch a couple chicks, but I won't be keeping any roos. So when these chicks grow to mating age, I will only have the one roo that made them in the first place. So...is that a problem? Would the chicks from them have deformities or other problems like, let say for example, hearing problems?

I hope this isn't a stupid question.

This can be a real complicated topic. I suggest you do a search on "line breeding" for more details.

Practically all breeds were developed his way. Most champions at major chicken shows have this type of breeding in their background.

Whether this is good or bad purely depends on the genetics of the chickens involved. Good traits may be enhanced or bad traits may be enhanced. You just have to watch the chicks and keep the good ones.
