Is there sales tax on chicken feed in California?

There is no tax on chicken feed in California. BTW, if you buy feed for a horse it is taxed. If you buy it for a cow it is not.

I do believe, and I could be wrong, but- feed for any animal considered livestock for human consumption is tax free, ie: goat feed, chicken feed, etc. When buying hay for my horses, I just say its for goats and I get tax free hay (I have goats also though) So in theory, chicken feed should be tax free since you can eat them and their eggs, but horses do not produce anything edible and are not edible themselves here in Ca, or the US (I hope) I have never been taxed for chicken scratch, lay pellets/crumble, chick starter or flock raiser.

Have you been taxed on your feed?
