Good morning everyone!

My cockerel (George) is somewhat of an enigma to me.

I have often read threads about people trying in vain to silence their roosters from crowing, but mine seems to be different.

George will start crowing around 3.30am when hubby turns on all the house lights and goes to work. He will crow for about ten minutes, until I get out of bed and switch the lights off, then he goes back to sleep. Good George!

Around 6.30am - 7am, when the sun comes up, we get a few brief crows too. This lasts maybe six or so crows. They are loud and clear, as are the first crows, but that's the end of it.

No more crowing after that for the day. None at night. None at snack time. None when birds fly overhead. None when he sees me, the cat, or hubby approaching.

Is it normal to have so little crowing?!

Don't get me wrong - I'm quite grateful (as I assume my neighbours are!) Just wondering if George is 'normal?'

Thanks! Krista

Hi George sounds sweet
And why doesn't your husband turn the lights off himself!!!
Ian new my cockerel only crows when we let him out of the coop about 8am
I say crowing its more like a dying croak
Bless him
AND
I'm convinced he's going grey but my farmer friends say chickens don't go grey!

Ha ha, I guess George has more manners than my husband, lol :)

He is very sweet (I'm still talking about George!) and will eat from my hand now which is nice.

If we go near the pullets to administer treatments etc, George won't attack us - he just whimpers like a sad little puppy in the corner of the coop!

(Hubby is ok too, I guess, lol!)

Krista
