This is the cutest thread I've read all morning.

(I think sleeping roosters are adorable...)

I start to worry right away if I don't hear the crowing. My 24 year old son spent the night last week. I ask if he heard the rooster. OMG he said its like an alarm using snooze button. See he crows every hour or so until about 9 am.

There are really cute novelty clocks that sounds like animals one of course being a rooster. Leghorn, your son could use one since the sound of crowing was so successful in waking him. Hehehe, Mr. Roo gets one too if he starts sleeping on the job!

I think they are all different. I have some 10 week olds that are croaking more than crowing.

I prayed for the day our new puppy would be able to hold his bladder enough that he wouldn't wake me up @ 5 AM to go out. Now he's sleeping till 9 and I'm up at....5 AM.

Oh, and do they observe holidays and weekends?!? Noooo.

I'm sleep deprived on a regular basis but when the roo crew decided they should bed their flock down at 6:30 PM and wake them up at 4:30 AM that was ever loving it! I now go out there most evenings and poke them awake, roust them out of their nesting box when they start getting comfy for the night too early. Now they at least hold off until after 5 AM. Cheeky! The standard hens just simply ignore them and come out when they hear the backdoor open. I know they are probably saying, "Look little dudes, you can crow all you like but they aren't coming out here to let us out until the cats and dogs wake up the people. Chill out!". Or something to that effect.

UPDATE

He didn't crow this morning either.I went outside and he just looked tired. A few hours later he had passed away. RIP Rooster.

Whoever said my spidey sense was tingling was right. I KNEW something was wrong. I don't know how old Rooster was because he was a rescue. His girlfriend, Hen, died last week. They may have both been pretty old. They had a good last few months here- no one was digging up bugs and worms and hand feeding them at the rescue.

So sorry,
You gave them a great last few months.
