Is there such a think as a "Mutt" chicken?

Something with average size eggs that lays frequently. I'm up for a good surprise but we want to eat the eggs. And we don't care about the color of them.

Look on craigslist for 'farm fresh eggs' email them and ask if they have roosters too, and are they're eggs fertile. If they ask why, tell them..they might want to charge you an extra $ or so if you're hatching them but it's still cheaper then shipping!
