Is there such thing as Smooth Silkie? If not, what do I have? approx. 4 weeks old

I purchased Sylvia as a silkie, the woman I bought her from said she was a smooth silkie. She then said people say there is no such thing as this, but this is going to be one, so they are wrong... Is it a silkie? I want another fluffy chicken, and was hoping for the fluffy head, but am now wondering if she will fluff out.

Does anyone have guesses as to what she is? Has anyone heard of a smooth silkie? If so, what do they look like as adults? Should I be seeing more feather growth on her head if she is going to fluff out by now?

There is no such thing as a smooth silkie. That chick is some sort of silkie mix, maybe with cochin.

I felt that was an odd thing to say. By the looks of her do you think she will fluff out like a typical silkie or be a milder version of one? I was really hoping for a fluffer head. Thanks for the response!

I don't think she will develop a crest. Looks more Cochin-y in type. At least so far she looks to be a she.

Are d'Uccles all smaller breeds? She is very small compared to the other three, even next to my 2 1/2 week old Easter Egger chicks. I have 1 RIR rooster, 1 ameraucana, 1 barred rock, 1 buff orpington that are all a year old. The four chicks I have now I plan to introduce when they are a few months old. If she is a bantam breed will she be okay among these other big girls?

They are a bantam (tiny). If you wait until she is 16 weeks old, that will give her the best chance to defend herself against the large fowl. You don't want your RIR rooster to hurt her when mating, even when she is grown. Just keep an eye on that. She may be too small for him, or not. Judgement call.

I have had d'Uccles and silkies. The d'Uccles are very timid, and can be kept away from the feeder by the large fowl- two feeders helps. Silkies can go either way. They can either be on top of the pecking order (surprisingly), or at the bottom. I have seen both.

Keep in mind that I don't really know what breed your chicken is. I was guessing- but here is the info. you requested anyway!

I LOVE d'Uccles and silkies. Hopefully I will have them again one day.

Thanks, this is very helpful! I will keep an eye on her. I am interested in you naming that breed because she is so small. However, she is not in the least timid with the other three chicks I have with her. She is definitely the queen bee and very feisty. If she is a smaller breed hopefully her big personality will do her well.
