Is this a Barred Rock or???

Fred's Hens :

Smudged barring. That's pretty common with hatchery Rocks these days. Pity. I've got a couple myself.
Doesn't change the fact that they (and she pictured above) are absolutely darling.

but if it is pure, then it's parents were not smudged?

I think Happy Chooks comment is based on the extreme smudging of the barring. The barring is poor even for a hatchery quality bird which would lead one to believe that the bird is a barred cross. She's still very pretty.

Yes, because of the smudged barring.

This is my hatchery BR:

And when she was younger:

her legs are yellowish with black lines down the front

she and two sisters and three brothers I had all look exactly the same....other than some very tall combs and wattles on the boys.

This hen looks just like my two supposedly cuckoo marans. They have rose combs and one started laying tan pullet eggs. What do you expect for a hatchery bird? Probably a cross. I love her dealy anyway, very sweet.

could my birds be fathered by my barred rock roo and mothered by a black sex-link that was part barred rock?

Could I have a 75% barred rock?

Do they use barred rocks in black sex-links? as the male or female?

My buddy raises cows and he crosses hereford and angus....well he just had a baldy give birth to what looks like a black and white hereford....75% hereford and 25% angus.

He says if he breeds here back to a herefors, he will get a hereford
