Is this a BLRW??? (post #19 = new pics and very upset!!)

Yeah, this chick is NOT a beauty!

Sigh. Apparently both parents are BLRW, the lady sent me pics... so perhaps a recessive gene resurfaced since it's crap (er. stock...) from McMurray!

I really hope it's a girl because nobody wants to buy mixed roos and I paid $7 for this chick last month - grrrrr!

i have no idea...but heres my 2 cents worth...i know wyandottes come in golden laced....maybe she is that...but the two chicks look completely different...also i am new to chixn so i am more than likely WRONG....lol...they all look funny/scary when they are this age

Okay.... Here is what I see.... (probably a crossbreed) but the shanks are correct.... the comb is correct and it is a female. It looks like it is coming in partridge or duckwing or something like that. I think it is at it's ugly stage but will be an attractive bird. If you are a breeder then I would try to swap out... If you are an enthusiast I would ask for some kind of compensation and keep the girl.. I bet she turns out real pretty... I don't think she is ugly in any way... She is at the awkward stage.

Hey! She's not ugly just not well colored.. too much red with not enough lacing but she does look like she was suppose to be a BLRW! Most likely what you thought.. she is some kind of Hatchery stock..

It kind of looks like my Easter Egger chick.

i don't think that it's ugly, just going through the funny adolesent stage. I'm sure she'll be a pretty hen:D

You guys made my day

She will stay since she's a hen and as for the coloring, I will be patient and see what she turns out to look like in a few months...

In reality I really don't care, as long as she's sweet, healthy and lays nice eggs...

I don't breed my birds to sell to people (except for the occasional silkie...) so it's no big deal about the BLRW type (I have others that are correct) but I did alert the breeder, she has to know what her birds are throwing gene-wise!

Doesn't look like a BLRW to me at all, really, but could be a color cross. No matter what, I'd not return that chick since you've had some issues in your flock. I know you don't want to pass anything to someone else's flock after all the heartache you've been through lately with disease issues. Hopefully, it's a pullet and you can just chalk it up to an accident. Many of my crossbreeds were very happy accidents.

Bad news... I'm pretty sure this youngster is a boy

He/she is now 10 weeks old and although there is no comb and the wattles are barely there, I see saddle feathers growing in. Face is getting red, hackle feathers look pointy, wing feathers are shiny/irridescent and the legs are getting big.

I'm so discouraged - we're over-run by boys and I can only keep a handful, the rest will have to be re-homed after all this hard work and investment.

Anyways, I took some pics today and would love confirmation that Scarlet is, indeed, a boy
