Where is the picture?@shawluvsbirds I've gotten this far and dont see its bill
I would moisten that membrane with coconut oil or Vaseline as I go, keep using your flashlight from all angles to help you see in there.Sorry it didnt post Here's the hole so far and I dont see the bill. Should I pick off some more shell?
I widened it a bit more but didn't see the bill. Only feathers. So I stopped and set it back in the incubator for a short while. I could see the duckling moving and saw something that might have been the bill poke at the membrane. I might widen a little more. I moistened the membrane and saw a couple of small veins. After I set it in the incubator it started rocking. It is possible that it knocked a vain with the toenail too. So also keep checking the air cell end for an internal pip.
I always kind of dread to tell someone to keep going.
Just do whatever you're comfortable with doing. Unfortunatly
Either way you go there are risks involved.
I have done enough of them now I am a little bit more aggressive and feel like I know how far I can go.
I do know how hard it is to decide when you haven't done it very many times.
I have had plenty of times I've helped and they died anyway and plenty of times I have done nothing and they died anyway.
But I have some success in between too!
I have just learned not to let it upset me either way.
Good work!Yay! I kept going and I watched for a bit. I could see his bill attempting to pierce the membrane. I made a small hole in the membrane so he could breathe. Not many veins present and I didnt hit any when I made the hole in the membrane. He can breathe now so I put him back in the incubator and am leaving him be for a while. I can see a yolk sac to the left so he still has some absorbing to do. Thanks for the help!
I definitely will! I have a feeling I won’t be sleeping tonight lol.Good work!
now just keep an eye on that membrane that it doesn't get stuck to it's nostril or eye. I have had that happen and it is not fun to remove.
