Is this a cellist thing?

people who play the cello, please tell me if this is something cellists do. My brother plays the cello and i play the violin. I get "mocked and ridiculed" just about every day because of my "stupid instrument that sounds like a dying cow". His teacher also (according to my brother) very much dislikes violins. I dont know very many other cellists but the ones i do know are on the same page (but way more mature about it). If you play the cello, do tell.

Harrumph. I don't play any stringed instruments, but your brother's comment seems rude. Yeah, that's how brothers are. I do have a brother.

How long have either of you been playing? ANYONE new to an instrument goes through the "dying cow sound" phase.

Tell him that at least you can move around while you play, and he has to sit there. (See the Woody Allen film, "Take the Money and Run" for a funny bit about playing the cello in a marching band.)

my dad jokes about the cello being so big. when he tells my brother to get his cello out he says, "go get your cello and your Ikea manuel"
