Is this a fair price

I took one of my eastern turkeys to a swap this morning. He was hatched from a pair of easterns that a friend of mine now owns. This pair was from eggs he purchased from a hatchery about a year or so ago. So these and their offspring are legal. This poult is about 8 weeks old and I priced it at $15, but I had no takers. However, dealers outnumbered buyers about 6-1 at the little swap. Do you think I had a fair price, or was I too high. I have 2 of these easterns, one 8 weeks old and the other 2 weeks old and my bourban began hatching babies this morning (2 so far). I want to be fair on pricing, but I don't plan to just give them away either. Opinions.

I think that was fair. They come from the hatcheries as day olds and they are around $8.00. I sold 2 wk old BR for $10. You've done all the hard work by feeding and keeping them until they are able to be outside. $15 is very fair.

I think that is a very fair price and would not go any lower. I'd raise it up and butcher it before I'd go any lower. Don't give them away.

Thanks, I felt I was being fair on the price too. Just get tired of some dealers acting like I should give them some kind of cutrate price. I kept the poult and will just try some other time. Besides with the others hatching, I may need to wait a little while anyway.

Sounds like a fair price to me. Some people just want stuff given to them these days. I had a woman that kinda ticked me off this morning. She came her looking for poults and I showed her some stuff in the 6 to 8 week old range and priced them at 12.00 each. She promptly told me that that was way too high and that she could get them up in MO for four dollars each.
What I want to know is if she can buy 6 week old turkeys for $4.00 each why in the heck is she still out shopping around? Does she want them for $2.00? Personally I think she is FOS! If she did know of some turkeys for that price I would bet they were day olds. I guess people like her think we should just feed and take care of this stuff for free.

I completely agree, and LOL. You really hit the nail on the head. I had one woman ask me how much I wanted for a 3 month old Araucana roo and I said $2. Without blinking an eye, she offered me $1 and I picked up my cage and put it in the back of my truck and said NO. She quickly changed her mind.

I knew I was cheap on this, and she just ticked me off. I also know that ALL my birds are healthy and of good quality, so I get a little perturbed when someone tries to barter with me. On the bright side a nice older man stopped by the swap and told several of us we would be welcome to use his property to have a swap anytime. And it is a much better location, so I imagine that is where I will be next time. I have sold most of my excess birds by using boards like this, but still have a few turkeys and a trio of young cuckoo marans to sell.
