Is this a fertile egg?

Having a strange fertility issue with our flock... We have 20 young, healthy chicks from 2 BCM hens and a BCM roo from the last few weeks hatches.

This week, two of the hens suddenly had 10 infertile eggs each!
Nothing that we know of has changed in the last month. All the chicks seem vigorous and healthy. Most of the chicks hatched during hatch, and few were late quitters with 3 late sticky chicks when we opened to take out hatched chicks.

Here's a few photos and angles of the egg- is that a bull's eye?

A few more angles. Couldn't get the yolk back in the shell.

Nope. A bullseye will look like a very defined "O"

Thanks so much, Peep-Show- needed confirmation.

But- now, I'm really confused. What is going on...?

We gave her a trim since discovering this as she's a big and fluffy girl, and she's still infertile. What could have happened very suddenly to make two well-mated hens (that just had chicks) in with the roo, suddenly go infertile like this?

1 year old Momma hen who suddenly went infertile:

Her 1 week old chicks:

Just wanted to add, one other hen, and a RIR both in with the same roo too had great hatches with him the last time... so what gives???

Hmmmm...... How old is the egg you cracked?

Check out "How to tell fertile vs. Infertile egg" in the forums. I could be wrong, but all fertile eggs I've seen are definite "O"..... Some sites say if it's a blurry round, it could be fertile.

Could be your hens are refusing the roo (or visa versa) OR that your roo has potency problems. If the latter, then maybe a diet change for him is in order?

Good luck!

I just got this egg from her 20 minutes ago, and cracked it open.

This is Dad. He is a chunky monkey.

He's about on the large side of average size.

Maybe they are both suddenly refusing him- ? They do seem to like him and get along well with him though.

I have separated both of those hens out of the pen, and am going to put each of them back in and give a treat, and see if he's doing his roosterly duties.
Sheesh, never thought we'd have this problem. lol
