Is this a good chick house or chicken hospital? PICS!!!

All of these are pretty expensive. I suggest you do a search here on BYC for "grow out coop" and look through what comes up. You could throw together something yourself for much less money, that would hold 10 young chickens for six weeks.

But that last one from the Amish looks more suitable, space wise.

Yeah, these are expensive, but I wasn't going to order them from that exact place. Haha. Thanks for the info!

Those are all real cute, but chickens need quite a bit of room. Even two-week old chicks need room to run and try out their little wings. For chicks up to six weeks old, you need an outdoor exercise area about four feet by eight feet for ten chicks. The sleeping area isn't as important, just enough room for them to line up comfortably on a perch.

Then, over six weeks old to adulthood, chickens need ten square feet of outdoor area each. Even if you plan on free-ranging them, they still need adequate space during the times they have to be confined. More is better.

Besides size, the main problem I see with all of those hutches is the wire. You'd have to put hardware cloth over the wire or take the wire out and replace it with hardware cloth or the predators can just reach in and snatch heads off.

I use a 100 gal stock tank for a grow out pen, and suspend a warming light over it. There is no top, just kind of high walls, so when they want to fly and explore, they just fly out and they're in my 4 car garage. Granted, I have quite a clean up job once they move to the coop, but it keeps them safe, warm and they have lots of room to fly and run.

Agree, too small for 10 chickens even little ones. Great idea for a chicken hospital/isolation of newbies until ready to join flock. Chickens should have MINIMUM 2x2' each chicken. Mine have a lot more than that. You will need a bigger coop. Good Luck andwelcome to chicken keeping. You will LOVE it!
