Is this a good deal for silkies???

[QUOTE="so I'm actually considering ordering sexed silkies.

Funny story , I bought a “ bonded pair” of silkies from a breeder , I assumed that ment they’d done the deed?? Anyways two months later they each laid an egg !! I emailed her to tell her thinking this was so funny... she never even responded
That's probably because she was hacked off she sold you two pullets for the price of a male/female pair, which is childish. The males are a lot easier to come by no matter what quality they are but she shouldn't be so grouchy about your good fortune.

It's a good deal if those are really the parent stock and they are really 10 dollars each. But be careful-- it is Craigslist. People often misrepresent things on there and use a cheap price to lure you in and then say the price is really higher.

Also, what's that about Silkies not roosting? Mine always did when I had them-- I made one of those ladder roosts myself just for them and they loved it.

I'm about to visit a local Silkies breeder tomorrow to look at her baby chicks and they're also $10 each, not advertised as show-quality at all. But like you, I really want a few and am too impatient to wait until Oct for the sites willing to ship 5 chicks or pay extra fees for less than 15 chicks, I really do not need that many so I'm willing to pay the extra money for just 2-3. Good luck getting yours.

Okay, this is going to be nit-picky, but you asked, so here goes...
That first pic is a concern for me. That red leakage is not SOP. Most breeders would cringe to have red leakage in their lines and cull HARD when going for pure colors! Any chicks sired by that roo, even if they're beautiful and perfectly pure white, has the red flaw in the genes. He would be a poor choice of sire if SOP color and the potential for a show quality bird is what your'e after. Otherwise, they're ALL beautiful! The pricing is very reasonable, but most people would charge more for stock derived from those lines. They may be "typey" (good form), but it is not professional for them to claim 'show quality' in general for chicks. Even top pedigrees will produce non show-quality progeny; you have to assess a bird's show potential on an individual basis. It's one thing if people say they have champions in their parentage, but claiming 'show quality' on all chicks, full stop, is a misnomer at best and misleading at worst. She does seem extremely loving and has the right attitude for a very caring breeder; I am just not sure if you are planning to show or just want typey birds?
TL;DR: I'd buy from her if you're looking for good quality, beautiful birds from a caring breeder, but if you're truly interested in show quality birds, you're going to pay a lot more. True show quality birds will have either already won awards, or been assessed by a judge or someone well-versed in silky SOP to determine their potential!

I really wish you lived near me, I have some beautiful silkie chicks and more on the way! :love
