Is this a good deal?

What you don't like to talk or Chauffer your Dinner around before you eat it ?

Just kidding i was thinking about driving 5 hrs with a pair in my SUV or Waggon . then i thought OH NO the Toms would drive me nuts if they gobbled all the way i can see me walking them into safeway and putting them on a leash next to the frozen turkeys with a sign stating FRESH With in 48 Hrs.

If the sweetgrass are quality colored, you should grab them. Narragansetts are much more common than sweetgrass, and should be priced a bit less. However, you could never raise a pair of Narragansetts for $75, so if he doesn't take your offer you might want to be willing to move. It does seem a bit strange that you can get a lot more for a dead turkey than a live turkey. I sell my heritage birds for $4.50/lb and take a loss. But that still means people are paying me $70 for a single butchered bird. Adult birds should really cost more than they do.

Are you sure they are only 2 years old?

I raise turkey's, all heritage breeds and they are very well fed and tended to. My day olds start at $10 and go to $15, my young toms are $50 and my young hens are $75.
I am not taking advantage of anybody, nor am I making any money off of them. I just happen to love turkey's.
So that is very good prices.

I agree with you. My turkeys get fed the best feed (high protein) and are VERY well taken care of. People say that I have THE best looking turkeys in town. I do not barter or decrease my turkey prices for anyone. It takes a lot to raise poults and turkeys. I sell my turkeys for a higher price as well. People ask me if I can take a few dollars off the price and may answer is NO.

When folks but my pairs (tom and hen), they are buying an investment. The pairs that they buy will be used for breeding and selling poults, so that person is making money. So, they should be ready to pay. They will get their money back over and over again because they will always make money.

My day old poults start at $12.00. My prices are the same as many of the hatcheries.

Well my phone won't let me post pictures, but a lady I know who shows birds, told me I should show my new Narraganset Tom. He is a beauty

Me too, raising good turkey's is not cheap, even when they get to free range.
I will put them in my own freezer first. But I try very hard not to hatch out more than I can sell or that I am needing to keep to add to my stock.
And I have people that don't bat an eye at the prices, I know these folk's know what it cost to raise a good animal. And other's that say " I can get them for $7.00 at the feed store." I tell them politely, those are meat birds and by all means go to the feed store. :)

Same here. I will put them in my own freezer first. I tell people that I don't HAVE TO sell them. I will sell when people contact me but other than that, I process. You just can't beat your own home grown bird - especially when it's taken real good care of.

And if anyone tells me that someone else can beat my price (which they never have), I would tell them well you go right ahead and go to the other seller because i'm not desperate to sell you anything at a cheap price. I'm not hard up for money.

I've started collecting turkey eggs and thinking about how many I want for 2013.
