I have six baby chicks, and two ducklings.I have very welled mannered tamed pet hens. The baby chicks are pets, but do not like being picked up,but will follow me and allow ne to pet them a little.I thought I'd take Banshee, and use her as a romodle. She loves me.She imprinted on me a long time ago.And she is one of the only hens that the repository disease didn't hit.And she has always been one of the healthiest. She is two years old.

I will start by putting them out in a outside pen.I'll let them forage etc.

Depends on how old the chicks are. I personally keep them separated until the pullets/cockrells are about the same size. It only takes one good peck for the older birds to kill the chick. They are not being mean, it's just their nature to protect what they feel is theirs and establish the pecking order.

I am not entirely sure what your question is. Are you asking whether or not it is a good idea to mix young chicks and adult hens? If so, the answer is a definite NO. Adult hens would likely attack them since they are strangers in their territory. I doubt the chicks would see an adult hen as a role model.
