I bought this chick as a light brahma. But once i examined her and a couple of pictures online, i realized that she is not supposed to have that much black on her wing and her tail is really small and high. She is somewhere around 1 month. i bought her in a feed store. This is my first light brahma, so what i may be say may be a little ignorant. I just wanted to make sure that i got the right breed, so any thought??

Oh and btw i bought this chick as a hen (they were all hens), does she look like a hen.

Hatchery quality birds (from feed stores they are all hatchery birds) vary widely in color. I'm not sure exactly about bramha sexing - i have two, both EE mixes with LB dad, and one has tons of feathers while the other still looks naked... however, I believe from comb growth at 8 weeks that they're both boys. So... dunno about that one.

Yes, here's my 3 week old girl. For some reason mine has grown her back feathers early.

Yes, yours looks like a hen so far, but maybe only 3 weeks old. She looks the same age as mine.

Mine is coming in mostly white for some reason other then her wings.

Here is mine at 4 weeks (I think) for comparison...we were told this was a light sussex when we purchased it. obviously they were mistaken :)

Is it just me or does mine's tail look a little bit odd. and any thoughts about the blacken wing, might it whiten up??
