About 7-8 weeks old. He seems to have a lot of black on him so I am confused as to if he is a light brahma.

I would say yes. He may get lighter as he ages, or he may just be a poor example of the columbian pattern.
I've not seen a cross between a light and a dark, so he could be that also.
