This is 9 1/2 week old Ash. The lady I got him/her from said it was a Dominique, I think its a Dominique-Australorp mix because in the sun his/her feathers have that pretty green sheen (she also had Australorps). I was just wondering if anyone can tell me if its a he or a she.. It has a lot of red on the face already!

Don't looked to be mixed, appears to be a pea comb, if it was a single comb I would say Plymouth Barred Rock

can you get a straight on comb shot?. he could still be mixed...and doms have rose combs not pea combs...my parents used to have doms and rocks that breed together none of the chicks i hatched had single combs but you could tell by the comb that they were both pure and mixed

It's been a little bit since I posted this, Ash will now be 17 weeks old on Sunday and yesterday he started squatting.. Do roosters squat or is he really a she?? He has never crowed, but I was just thinking he is a late crower.. Here are a few pics I took today.

this is the squat, he was standing and i rubbed his back and he dropped down and lifted his butt up

I think he may be a she. I don't see the long pointy saddle feathers that a cockerel should have at that age. I know my Pig Pen is a different breed but here is a pic at 18 weeks.

See the long pointed hackle and saddle feathers.
