I could be wrong, but I think females sometimes appear to be males because they don't have a lot of spots on their chest, but they are still female. I think that may be the case with that one. A female with only a few spots on her chest. I'm new to all this too, so hopefully a more experienced quail person can say for sure.

Oh alright thank you its just these days ivr been getting way more males than females and it's getting frustrating because they are still sort of young and they are fighting even though I was sure I had enough females

I have a couple red chested females with a few spots like that. I'd say female, but at 5 weeks, I wouldn't expect foam either. Could be wrong, but female.

Females can have red chests with spots.
Males are red chested without spots.

It looks like a male to me. I have 45 males that are 5 weeks old tomorrow and none of them have started crowing yet so I doubt they'd have foam. I have a female with a reddish chest but she has spots, I don't see any spots on the chest, just the neck.

How long ago did he sell them to you?

I'm going to check my red chested female when I get home and see what she looks like compared.

I could see female if it's getting bred by the males and possibly hasn't got all its spots yet since it's not fully mature. My males heads are a little darker colored and have a pretty distinct transition between the neck and chest. That one has spots on neck leading into the chest and lighter coloration on the head. Of course that could be because it's not fully mature yet.

My red chested female has the same red color as the boys but her spots do cover her chest, unlike the males with no spots.

I bought her or he from a person together with another one that turned out to be male because of his sounds and foam so I'm guessing if its not doing that it's a female

Maturity varies by bird. I've had a couple late bloomers that were identified as female and later battled for breeding rights. Check at 8 weeks for confirmation. Should be crowing by then also.

Last hatch of 13 appears to have 3 girls. No crowing at 7 weeks and everyone still has back feathers. Can they last another week?
