What color are the eggs?Is she supposely a miX?
What Fred is trying to tell you is that she is not really an RIR. She is a hatchery cross called RIRs by the hatcheries. This hen most likely has brown leghorn mixed in so the body is shaped wrong along with the colors.
She will lay a lot of eggs, almost as much as a Red Sexlink
OMG THX! SHES A BROWN LEGHORN DUH!CUZ AT THE STORE IT WAS PRODUCTION REDS AND LEGHORNS!She does lay alot off eggs!
Well true but stil if it was a rir i was worried their mean. What you have there is a red chicken. If you got it from the red pullet bin at a farm store then most likely it is some sort of sex link, or a production red..al of which are mixes...
So it is a little red hen. No need to worry about it. Does it really matter anyway.
It isn't anything but a red chicken either way you look at it. All it could be is a mix. And different hatcheries use different birds to make their Sex links. My red sex links are great because they are very heavy bodied. Meaning my boys are delicious, and heavy chickens don't go missing as often here. Not sure I will end up with any to keep for myself because I hatch to sell, but whatever is left becomes next year's flock. I keep whoever doesn't sell, minus a couple I just won't sell. Lol
But yeah, it is a red hen and that is it. I only know what mixes my mixes are because I hatched them from my chickens...but I doubt anyone could look at my birds and guess orpington faverolle cross... I'd say they would be mighty confusing. Faverolles aren't a common breed...so you're trying to figure out which chickens could make an orange feather footed bearded chicken.
