This little chick is 5,5 weeks old now. Dad was a New Hampshire Red, hatchery quality. Mom some sort of an Easter Egger, chick hatched from a green egg. Can't tell for sure which hen laid the egg.

Is it safe to say this chick is a SHE? Or maybe it's too early to tell?
I've read that if the feathers on the back of the neck/back are round at the end, that's a sign of a pullet? If the feather tips are sharp/narrow, you got a cockerel. Is this a good indication of gender? This little one has rounded feathers everywhere.

And Spot is a big fan of BYC too.

yup pullet but the way of telling gender with the narrowness and "sharpness" of the feathers is a really bad way to sex them.

Thank you everyone!

I had never heard of this before and really had no clue whether it had any truth to it.

Actually, pointed hackle (neck) and saddle (lower back) feathers are a 100% sure way to ID a cockerel once the chicken is old enough. Baby feathers simply aren't useful for this purpose -- the chick will be 12+ weeks when rooster feathers start to emerge.
