is this a quail egg???

Honestly it looks like a coturnix quail egg, so it should take about 18 days to hatch. I can't believe you have them wandering in your yard! Someone must have released it, as they are not native any place in this country. You could actually try to catch the adults as well, I doubt there are any regulations against it, not on those birds anyway.

If it is a coturnix, she probably did just drop it. Most coturnix don't set their eggs, it has been bred out of them. So most likely the only way that egg would hatch is if something else set on it (like your incubator

). But I would try to catch the adults too

i candled it after it got dark, and it was all dried out inside...
hubby wants to say maybe it fell out of a nest up in the tree.. but this is a 30 ft palm tree...
if it did get kicked out of a nest, it's a mockingbird egg...
he tried to tell me quail can fly that high... okay, maybe they can, but i doubt they would... lol...

just looked up mockingbird eggs, and it very well could have been one... i saved it.. it's pretty...

i'll just have to break down and get some quail in the spring... unless i get some in an eg train or swap between now and then.. lol..
