Is this a raspberry vine?

Aint no thornless varieties over there.lol! Plenty of thorny ones though. I just hate just throwing them away. So Ill try and give it away first if I dont want it or its on to the "empty lot". At least that way somebody may get it later or whatever. haha. The good news is sometimes I threw out stuff I thought dead and it came back to life later.

Well... it's raspberry. Some reds will send out suckers at the base. Possible it just got stressed and went dormant.

My wild black raspberries (rubus occidentalis) have a more purple-ish stem.. where my red raspberries are green. Then I do have a freaky one I found in the woods that has a very light green cane & huge black raspberries.

See what fruits next year. Red raspberries & wild black raspberries can cross (purples.) I keep trying to experiment with that but my husband keeps eating all the red raspberries.. and the chickens devour the black ones.

Black raspberries are awesome. Love them... especially frozen. The kids come in and will eat bowls of it instead of ice cream.

(Blackberries btw retain the center part when picked.. where raspberries are hollow. There actually a bunch that are invasive.)

Wild black raspberries.. there is some variation between them. If you find one you really like.. get a pot of soil and bend the tip over and bury it in the pot- still attached. Give it several weeks and it will root. Then just cut free and transplant. We have a big black raspberry patch in the forest- at the far end of the property (horrible hike in the summer when they are ripe and omg ticks galore.) The plants we like (healthy canes, good fruit set.. and most importantly- tasty fruit of good size).. we mark by tying a bit of yarn on it. After fruiting we bend the tips down in pots, by fall they are ready to go and we move them closer to the house.
