NEW PICTURES POSTED IN POST #11. They are much better since I finally figured out how to use the macro setting on my camera

I am worried that my 8 week old pullet is turning into a roo.

This one has always been on the fence for me and others when I have posted about him/her.

Here is a pic of the bird in question (on the right) and in the background is a definate roo.

My next question is ... if the one in question IS a roo, which should I keep of the two roos?

This is the one in question:

and this is the one I was planning to keep, Pretty Boy.

So, I actually have two questions

1.) Is Hermi (the one in question) a roo or a pullet?

2.) If a roo, which should I keep between Hermi and Pretty Boy?

Thanks for any help. I only ask because I cannot keep two. If Hermi is a roo, one of the boys will have to go to the swap meet next weekend and find a new home.

I have some SLW's that are from Ideal, sexed as pullets, and they look pretty red in the face. I think maybe because of the comb shape it can be hard to sex. The combs are wide and we instinctively think roo.

i dont know but i would wager a pullet as prettyboys comb and wattles are much more red....hermi's is similar in color to the one you know is a pullet...but like i said...i dunno

Yes, I'd say he's a roo. They mature really very slow, so it's hard to make the call on who to keep this young.

Are you planning on breeding them for selling? If you are, you might want to think about getting some that are better examples of the breed.

I am mostly going to breed just to increase my own flock. I love the color and know it can be hard to breed for an ideal type within this variety. I do hope to one day aquire some of nicer type, but I'd be happy to breed these guys and get a few more to enjoy for now.

Thank you all for the replies. This one really has me stumped. Everyone else is very obvious but for this one.
