How old is the bird shown? I ask because the "pointed feathers" you have heard about are not evident prior to the onset of chicken puberty - to that point both genders have the same feather structure. Additionally, the feathering is only one part of the puzzle of gender ID in birds of this age - it's important to look at the whole bird - so a photo that shows the whole bird is more useful than the angle of this photo. From what I can see in this photo the bird is not an obvious cockerel, but a clear side shot that shows the whole bird can often show an entirely different answer.
