SO WE FINALLY FINALLY GOT OUR CHICKS!
woot.gif

THEY ARE 1 WEEK AND 4 DAYS OLD (WE'VE HAD THEM 1 WK AND 3 DAYS) AND THEY'S SO CUTE AND GROWING LIKE WEEDS....
WE ARE NEW TO CHICKS, SO WE'VE BEEN WATCHING.... A LOT!
THEY HAVE A VERY LARGE BOX (THERE IS 12 OF THEM) AND HAVE PLENTY OF ROOM, WATER, FOOD AND PIECES OF WOOD TO JUMP ON ETC. SOMETIMES 2 AT A TIME WILL 'GO AFTER' EACH OTHER. THERE'S NO HARM OR ANYTHING REALLY GOING ON OTHER THAN THEY WILL STAND SO TALL AND GET FACE TO FACE AND EVERY ONCE AND AWHILE THERE IS A PECK OR TWO UNTIL SOMEONE BACKS DOWN. THEY'RE STILL LITTLE, ALTHOUGH THEIR FEATHERS ARE COMING IN SO FAST. BUT WE ARE TRYING TO FIND OUT IF WE HAVE A ROO OR IF THIS IS JUST ESTABLISHING PECKING ORDER??
WE DIDN'T WANT A ROO BUT THE MORE WE TALK ABOUT IT, THE MORE WE MIGHT WANT JUST ONE WE DON'T REALLY NEED ANY MORE BABIES BUT IT MIGHT BE FUN. ANY IDEA IF IT'S TOO EARLY TO TELL?
THANKS! AS SOON AS I CAN FIGURE OUT HOW TO PUT PICS ON HERE I WILL!

I have 3 buff orpingtons and I know one was a roo early on. The roos comb normally comes in faster then the hens and it will be redder then the hens. I knew probably around a month. month and a half for him.

I'm trying to find buffs to replace my three roos i ended up with . I also have rhode island reds.

They're just establishingn their pecking order, but in a month or two you should be able to see their combs growing, and if they are more redder and bigger then the others, and you have a roo, if not, most likely a hen.
