Is this a Rooster or a Hen?

They won't start laying until after 20 weeks old.

good to know, thanks :)

Btw, with the pictures shown, how much of a change would they both go through once they are adults?

I have been trying to find out which ones they are and it says brown red ameraucana. I have been trying to find the difference between EE and true brown red ameraucana's.

Pullets don't change much after about 8 weeks. It's the cockerels that can look like different birds week to week. You have Easter Eggers.
They are a very common coloration for Easter Eggers. It's a nonstandard partridge type color.
This is one of my EE girls in between 2 Australorps at 8 weeks old.

Here she is at 22 weeks. She did change a bit, her lacing became a bit more defined.

A purebred Brown Red Ameraucana hen is the same coloration as a black sex link or Copper Maran hen, mostly black with some red or gold on the neck and chest area.

Awesome! I did not know any of this, That is why I thought it would be best to post her pictures on here.

One of my neighbors who has some ameraucana's said she heard a old timer say:

hold the chicks up by the scruff of the neck (like youd do to a kitten) and let their feet dangle. He said the males pull their legs up while the teh females would keep their feet dangling down, and that he doesnt know if it would work on older chickens.

I wasnt about to try and hang Roo and every other chicken I have by the scruff of their neck, id rather them think I am a good person to be around in their space.

Thank you again for verifying that Roo is a hen in the making, I take it that also explains why she has bigger feet then Cheeky?

Easter Eggers are not a standard breed. There can be a lot of variation to them. In the second picture I posted, you can see that that particular Easter Egger is much smaller than the barred Rock right next her. My other Easter Egger is bigger than the barred Rocks.

Well the barred rock that I purchased was/is a runt. Roo is bigger then everyone, I have/had a sick buff orpington who is in the brooder right now, being spoiled back to health and my runt is growing better then that buff is.

Is there a place I can go to online to learn more about the breeds of chickens I have? other then BYC??
