I’ve read a lot about these callers being very inhumane. I know that one reason is from the standpoint that it’s a Cockerel or rooster is natural instinct to crow and ask him or force him not to it’s not a kind thing but if I remember correctly there are other reasons that people were saying they’re in humane but I’m not sure what those are. I don’t recall. But I agree, I have five roosters and some of them you would never know if they were kept in the city. Now others start at 4 AM and sometimes crow at 2 AM and all of the hours in between that. And they are as loud as a freight train. But some of them are rather give me your period and all five of my roosters our house together so it is possible that you get a quiet one. Maybe because he’s so sweet and gentle he won’t be a obnoxious bird? I don’t know but that’s what I would be hoping forI have two 13 week old cockerels so no crowing... yet.
I've read about no-crow collars. You can read up on the pros and cons of these devices. Some have had great success with them. Some have inadvertently killed their birds with them.
I think that the goal of these collars is to lessen the volume and frequency of crowing, NOT to eliminate crowing. I think that is where folks went wrong when their birds died. They kept making the collars too tight to try to eliminate crowing.
I had a lot of other roosters and they all crowed much earlier than my cochin roosters. Cochins in general reach maturity later, are slow developers. His first crows were pretty funny! Couldn't really call them crows, but probably happened about 4 months I'm thinking. He still doesn't crow much, and it still sounds kind of funny, like he is still learning or something. But he does crow once in awhile and I can tell it is him. He still doesn't have the volume that the Speckled Sussex and the Easter Egger Roo has. He is kind of amusing! He is quite large and doesn't have to fight because he looks pretty intimidating, but I have never seen any aggression in him towards other roosters and he is sweet to the hens. I don't let the Speckled Sussex roos near him because they are aggressive. I am in the process of eliminating them. I decided I don't want to raise that breed. Puffy gets along well with my EE rooster (talk about a crower, that one is loud, long, frequent and crows in the middle of the night), I never see them fight. He also gets along with the Partridge Cochin roo. He is just a big, sweet, kind of bumbling guy, a gentle giant. He is about 6 months old now and has started mounting the hens. Maybe next year I will have some blue/black/splash Cochin chicks!I’m definitely gonna try to keep my guy. When did yours start crowing

Thank you. That really gives me hope. I have a green legged hen that makes sooo much noise. This guy is so sweet and docile. I am hoping he doesn’t crow loud or muchI’ve read a lot about these callers being very inhumane.
