Is this a tailless EE?

I have 12 six-week old EE's and while sitting with them in their pen today, I noticed that one of them is tailless. Not sure why I hadn't noticed this before, but sure enough... this little one does not have a tail! Is this common with EE's??

Yes it is, if that is, if it has Araucana somewhere in his/her blood? Do you happen to know who the parents where?

Ya that could be the case too. make sure she doesnt have tail feathers at all and if she doesnt i bet she has araucana in her blood somewhere it may be very little because she does look more like an EE.

Have no clue who the parents were. These chicks were hatched from eggs I ordered from houndit here on BYC. When I let the chicks out in their run tomorrow, I will check and see if I can feel a tail.

If I can feel a tail, can someone tell me why she has no tail feathers? Her other 11 siblings all have tail feathers.

In the meantime... I'm gonna send houndit a PM and see if he can tell me who/what her parents were.

I have has abunch of EE chicks. Is it's the weirdest thing. Some of them don't get tails for a very long time. I have one that is going on 2 1/2 months old and no tail. But they DO actually have one, it's just not growing. Same as yours.

I found that for some strains of EE's. The roosters don't grow in their tails for a long time. I have no clue why. Thats just what happens with all the chicks I get from a local breeder.

My own bred EE chicks don't do that.

But all the ones from him do.

So maybe it's some genetic thing. I have no clue. But my guess is your little EE is a rooster.

I hatched a batch of blue Ameraucanas and a batch of Lavender splits.. like a dummy I had them in the same hatcher.. couldn't tell them apart.. I had a few that didn't have tails..
Well.. I wanted more lavendes, so I bought another batch of eggs.. The second batch none have tails! The good thing is.. Now I know the lavenders from the blues! (the black ones)

I was wondering about this too!

My book says the Araucana has no tail, and has tuft of ear feathers.
Ameraucanas supposedly do not have the Araucana's gene that causes some chicks to due during incubation. It doesn't say they don't have tails, so I assume they do have tails. It didn't indicate a difference between male/female in the book.
