Thanks so much. I’ll go the neosporin route and will pick up hibiclens after work.Once you've cleaned and flushed and are ready to apply ointment, I would use the neosporin since it's petroleum based and will stick better and keep the area moist. Veterycin is good for cleaning, but it will not stay moist as long. Softening and removing the scab may happen slowly over several tries depending on how thick and dry it is. The neosporin in between sessions will also help soften it. I often use hibiclens when cleaning wounds on my birds.
Could you elaborate on how I should go about flushing it? Is it as simple as rinsing with tap water, or should I get a douche and use saline?
When I get home, I’m planning to start with an epsom salt soak for a few minutes, clean with hydrogen peroxide and apply a hot compress to try and loosen the scab, rinse with hibiclens and follow with neosporin. Does this sound like a good course of action?
How often should I do this? Sorry for asking so many questions.
