We have bought Cutesy from a bin labeled “americana” aka Easter Egger... she (🤞) is now 4.5 weeks old and I am not so sure that is her breed! What are your thoughts on the breed and also gender! There is a bit more pink in her comb than the others that I have... sweetest thing though!! Attaching a couple baby pictures too... this unsurety is driving me bonkers!

Those little chipmunk chicks are so hard! I have one that I’m trying to figure out, too, though I’m leaning towards leghorn for mine. I could be completely wrong because I’m still new to chickens, but I think yours may be an EE cockerel. The red patches coming out on the wings and the pinkness of the comb is why I’m thinking cockerel. Like I said, I could be completely wrong, but I’m curious, too! :)

🤦‍♀️ This is another thought.... may be why I want so bad for it to be another breed!! We can’t have roosters, and my daughter LOVES this one 😞

It is not an EE. Do you know which hatchery? She looks like a red Leghorn, but those are carried by only a couple of hatcheries - Ideal and McMurray.

If that is an EE, it’s a poor example of one. EEs usually have green or slate colored legs and pea combs. It doesn’t appear to be a brown Leghorn or Welsummer either. I do agree it’s a cockerel because of the patchy coloring on the wings.

I’m not sure on the breed either.

I’m guessing girl here. I don’t see much red color on the comb. The red color on the wings blends rather than stands out. The overall partridge color also looks more like a pullet.

Regardless of breed or gender... very cute!! :love

Watching thread - would love updates...

I feel you! My favorite is clearly becoming a roo and we can’t have them either 😫
But I wouldn’t give up hope. 4.5 weeks is still early. I’d update in a couple more weeks. Cutesy could still be a she! 🙂

Out of all the options, I REALLY hope not a cockerel 😔
