I brood all mine in aquariums and kept my japs inside until they were nearly fully feathered in a 90g. It's not that odd. They make great pens for small chickens.

If they got the chicken from a hatchery it's pretty safe to say it's an EE. Hatcheries don't sell pure ameraucana or araucana. They sell EEs that they try to give purebred names to.
