My girls have been laying so well, they are around 22 weeks now I believe maybe 23, last week they gave me 18 eggs (3 hens)
This morning when my daughter went to scoop the poop out of the nesting box (they tend to sleep in it grrr) she said that there wasn't much poop but a very wet spot. So I went to investigate and saw the spot so I started to shovel around and scoop it out to add dry shavings when I came across what looks like a soft shell.
I have never dealt with anything like this before. What do I do?
The hens are an EE, RIR, and buff orp. They get a laying feed, oyster shells, the odd treat from us (fruits they love, greens and veg they are mostly meh to) a couple handfuls of scratch, free range in the yard every day for a couple hours. There eggs have all been good sizes and firm, the buff's eggs could be a bit more firm the shell is a bit hard to break nicely/separates from the membrane a bit of that makes sense but nothing alarming or gooey like this.
Anyhow some insight as to what I'm dealing with and what I should do would be wonderful. Thanks!
