IS THIS AN INTERNAL PIP? SHOULD i GO INTO LOCK DOWN NOW?

NO! I already think 80% is too high. I have never hatched with mine that high....

When hatching my mandarins, domestic ducks, and accidentally chickens and button quail along with ringneck pheasants as well at the same time my incubator was set for 79% 80%

Well, I know that everyones machine is different but whenever my humidity gets high like that my eggs seem to ooze an amber liquid that hardens and clogs the nostrils. If they are lucky enough to hatch (with help) they are very sticky.... I would rather take my chances with a lower humidity than a sky high one...

Thats odd. I use the higher humidity in the styrofoam incubator because it goes down faster. In the sportsman 1502 incubator i tried to keep it the same at 79/80 but really ranged from about 70-80.

I probably wouldn't recommend going higher though unless you want to make it rain.

That is caused by high humidity throughout the first 25 days. They have not lost enough moisture from the egg before lockdown therefore there is too mush residual egg white which is what hardens like glue on the ducklings. In order to keep the membrane moist for the ducklings to turn and unzip a higher humidty is needed. Especially for when the shell has been cracked as that is when the membrane will dry out the fastest if not kept moist.

TriciaHowe - what humidity do you run the incubator at for the first 25 days with duck eggs?

TriciaHowe, at what humidity do you keep it at during regular incubation?
This last duckling i hatched monday had relatively dry humidity through incubation and then high during lockdown.
on other hatches it stays around 50% during regular incubation.

Edited to add: duckyfromoz: you just barely beat me to the question. lol.

My humidity is usually at MOST 40% during during incubation. I hatch my duck and chicken eggs together. It's been a long time since I have had the issues I mentioned above. I never raise my humidity at the end - it stays constant the whole time. My hatch rates are always close to 100% with my own eggs. I had much better hatch rates with lower humidity levels. I also don't mist my eggs.
