I moved my 5-6 wk old pullets into a larger pen today in the garage. One of them, that I already highly suspect is a cockerel, has been running around pecking or pulling the feathers of the others. It just goes from bird to bird giving them a good solid peck as if to say "Now don't you forget it!" then it moves on. Is this behavior typical of a cockerel? Does this behavior indicate that it's not going to be a very nice roo? If not, anyone in San Diego want a 6 wk old BR pullet?

I don't think so. . . Probably just a dominant chick. 5-6 week chicks don't really show "roo behaviors" yet. . . Wait some more months.

Can you post a picture? You might also post it in the "what breed or gender is this" forum. When I moved my girls out to the coop they began this behaviour that just turned out to be establishing the pecking order.

Yeah, seems like when they get into a new space they have to re-establish who is who in terms of rank. I'd give it a little more time to say for sure.
