Yep that needs to come out. Wrap her in a towel and try using the tweezers to open that up. Hopefully the bumble will come out easy. Sometimes you have to pick it out. But once you get it all out the foot will be able to heal.

Listen if I can you can! Just look at is as your helping her get over this bumble is staff an can spread into other parts of the body. So it’s important to get this taken care of.

Okay, I just tried to do it. I used a scalpel and went under the edge of the tiny scab. I was able to pull out some yellow crusty stuff, and went down a bit until I saw pink tissue - and it was still a very tiny hole, the size of the scab. It wasn't very dramatic so I'm not sure whether i got the infection out, but I sprayed with vetericyn and put antibiotic ointment over. I wrapped with vet tape and a plastic bag on top of that, secured with more vet tape. I hope this works - seems like it will stay on but the other ducks were instantly curious about it. Now eating some cabbage as I was hoping to distract them. I guess I'll wait and see a couple days now. How long should I keep the bandage on until removing to check? Should I reapply more medicine? Should I do more soaks?

Awesome!! I’d give it through the weekend maybe late Sunday. Since it’s going to be traumatized since you opened it. Then keep it good and covered till healed hopefully you got it all. Good job Miss!!

If you can get pressure sore pads? You can cut them into squares the size you need stick them on the sore and wrap in a bandage. Change every 3 days. You have to keep the foot dry though! They pull all the gunk out and away from the foot and so allow the sore to heal from the inside out.

By pads I mean allevyn life pads, like a big plaster.

Thanks, I will try to look for those. I checked on her an hour ago and the plastic bag had come off but the vet tape stayed on - although dirty and wet. I brought her in and redid the bandaging. I felt terrible - she was shaking she was so afraid. All along she's been so calm and peaceful during her epsom soaks. This time I did see that the bandage did survive a swim she took as soon as I put her back in the run. It would be great if I can leave her alone until Sunday. Thanks for everyone's help!
