I have a newly hatched chick with odd coloring. It is blue, has a wildtype patterned head, but the chipmunk lines through its back disappeared as it dried and fluffed. Its sire is a golden duckwing and the mother is blue. The blue hen's mother was a blue birchen. Is this chick a blue duckwing, or what's going on here?

Just from experience I'd say no it isn't. It carries duckwing but it doesn't carry two genes for it which it would need to express duckwing pattern.
I've crossed black with duckwing and I'm working on a blue silver duckwing project now.
With my hatches they have no choice but to be duckwing/duckwing or extended black/duckwing.
Black isn't near as dominate over duckwing as people say. Ive hatched 5 chicks that had various amounts of duckwing pattern showing. Only one stayed duckwing the other 4 ended up feathering in solid. I'd expect if your chick (if male especially) is like mine they'll probably end up with some duckwing leakage as adults. That what most of my prior crosses did.
