Is this Cocci in my chicks?

I ordered some chicks from McMurray about 3 weeks ago. This morning i woke up and had 3 dead chicks. I also noticed some blood drops on the shaving in the brooder.
I checked all the chicks to make sure no one was bleeding from a peck or something and i didnt see anything. I cleaned out the entire brooder and put some new shavings down and i already see more blood spots. I am thinking that it is bloody poop. I also noticed some of the chicks not being able to open one eye. It is weird. I will pick up a chick and the eye will be closed then i will put it back down and check on it again later and both eyes will be open. From reading about Cocci, i think i am supposed to be feeding them medicated feed because this prevents Cocci correct? I am not sure if the feed i am giving them is medicated or not. I will look in the morning. Here are some details so some of yall can help me pick out what is wrong with them

I had 31 chicks and i have lost 5 chicks in all since i got them. I am keeping them in a brooder with access to fresh food and water. Noticed the bloody poop but other than that the chicks seem to be in good shape except for a couple of the chicks not being able to open an eye. After a while, the eye opens back up... Some breeds i have are red stars, buff orpingtons, leghorns, ee's, BCM's, delawares, turkens, light brahmas. Some of the chicks are half size of the others. Seems they are growing at different rates.

The chicks are about 3.5 weeks old.

Please help me figure out what is wrong with them. If it is Cocci, please help me figure out how to heal them. Some good links would also be great.

I also would like to know how the chicks got the Cocci if they have it. They are kept in my old coop. There are no other chickens in there and cleaned it thoroughly with bleach three times before placing the chicks in there. The only thing near the chicks is my three royal palm turkeys and my 2 ducks which walk around the outside of the coop

All it takes is for the wind to blow the ooccysts into the brooder, Flies or even on your clothes, They will sporulate on any thing damp..I would get some Corid, If you cant find that get Sulmet..where are you getting your feed?

Bryce: Pine Grove is essentially correct. First, it is virtually impossible to raise chickens Cocci-free. I have tried in an experimental situation and failed. Oocysts are probably present from some of your other chickens or were in the pen. Wind can certainly blow oocysts into your pen if dried out, dusty litter is immediately upwind of the pen. Most probably you tracked the oocysts in on your shoes.
Corid or SulMet will control the cocci as noted above.
There are two ways to determine if you are buying medicated feed. One is price. Medicated feed is somewhat more expensive. Second, the sack should indicate the feed is medicated. If you buy feed in bulk, specify to the sales rep you want medicated feed.
In closing, the best way to determine if you do indeed have coccidiosis is to have a fecal examination performed. Some veterinarians can do this. They have to be able to recognize cocci under the microscope. Otherwise check w/ your state diagnostic laboratory.

boykin 2010: I see you are from Valdosta GA. Check with the GA Poultry Lab on US 41 at Tifton or the UGA laboratory on Brighton Rd, also in Tifton. Either should be able to do a fecal examination for you.
