Two chickens died. One seemed fine and died in coop. Silkie also seemed mostly fine but was full of diarrhea and hard mass of poop from bottom. I washed her and she died shortly after. Tried feeding her a strawberry which is in the pic and the red around the stool is also from strawberry not blood. I never saw blood in stool but did around vent. Live in canada and we've had alot of snow lately and freezing temps but chickens are in the coop above zero degrees celcius. Coop is a shed and six chickens in there. Lots of room and nipple feed. Chickens are less than one year old. Two chickens dead. Four remain. All layers. Only two producing eggs at this time.

If you have amprolium on hand or can get it easily, I suggest you start treating for coccidiosis immediately. Blood doesn't show up in the stools except when the coccidia are irritating the intestinal lining to a significant degree, and usually by the time blood is apparent in the stools, so is bacterial infection in the intestines. At that point, you really need an antibiotic in addition to the amprolium.

If you are uncertain and wish to know if these chickens have coccidia infestation, take a stool sample to a vet and ask for a fecal float, a quick easy inexpensive test for parasites. But collect the stool sample before starting the amprolium.
